Here at the Spokane Humane Society, we know how hard it is to struggle with the loss, or impending loss of a pet. When an animal is suffering, sometimes the kindest thing we can do is to provide a peaceful and painless end to the suffering.
Our caring staff provides skillful and compassionate euthanasia for seriously ill or suffering animals. No appointment is needed, but we ask that you arrive before 5 pm. Please be aware that owners are not able to be present during the euthanasia process; check with your own veterinarian for this service.
If you have an emergency after hours, please contact the Pet Emergency Clinic at (509) 326-6670.
We also provide mass cremation services for already-deceased animals or those euthanized at SHS. At this time we are unable to provide private cremation services. Please check with your own veterinarian or pet crematory for this service.

Pet Loss ResourcesWhen losing a beloved pet, many people go through the same, intense grieving process as if they had lost a human family member. Unfortunately not everyone understands this. It can be devastating when friends and family fail to provide needed support or say that one should simply ‘get over it’ or rush out to get a replacement pet.
We’re all animal lovers at the Spokane Humane Society, and we have been through the painful experience of losing a pet. Following are some resources to provide help during the grieving process:

Foster care
Our foster care volunteers temporarily take pets into their homes. We may not have room for a particular animal, it may be sick and need a little extra care, or it may benefit from some human socialization to prepare for adoption. If you'd like to help the animals in this way, contact Jenna Bell at
(509) 467-5235 ext:28 or jbell@spokanehumanesociety.org .
Outreach
Join the outreach program if you'd like to provide education about animal care to area schoolchildren. Dori Peck, our outreach coordinator, can tell you more. Reach her at (509) 467-5235 ext. 11 or dpeck@spokanehumanesociety.org.
Rescue groups
Rescue groups may have connections we don't have, so they give our animals a further chance at adoption. Rescues are encouraged to partner with us. Please get in touch with Randi Oien at (509) 467-5235 ext: 14 or roien@spokanehumanesociety.org
Volunteer
It takes a lot of people to run an organization as busy as the Spokane Humane Society. Our dedicated volunteers work in the office, beautify the grounds, walk the animals, help out with events and fundraisers, and lots more. Interested? Please get in touch with Jenna Bell at (509) 467-5235 ext:28 or email her at jbell@spokanehumanesociety.org
